Client Services Representative

North Shore Animal League America is currently seeking a Client Services Representative to provide excellent customer service to current, and potential clients of the Pet Health Centers. The Client Services Representatives act as first contact for all potential and current clients, and a liaison between our veterinarians and their patients.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Provide outstanding customer service
  • Communicate with clients through a variety of channels including telephone (both inbound and outbound), email, and virtual Televet platform.
  • Work as part of a team to put our clients and patients first
  • Assess emergency calls and walk-ins and direct them accordingly
  • Create appointments, explain procedures, give accurate fees and information for routine services (clinic hours, verify vaccine information, etc.)
  • Check in each patient for designated procedure/exam
  • Present hospital policies and invoices
  • Check out each client with the ability to process all payment types
  • Create client/patient medical records
  • Copy, Fax/Email medical records upon request
  • Process Care Credit and Scratchpay applications and payments
  • Data entry including vaccination records, importing medical records, updating client information, etc.
  • Maintain front desk and waiting rooms of the Pet Health Centers to ensure they are both stocked, organized, and presentable at all times
  • Additional duties may be assigned at the discretion of management

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Preferred 2+ years of customer service experience in a medical or veterinary facility
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be computer savvy
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment
  • Ability to stay organized and focused in a fast paced, high volume and demanding work environment
  • Willingness to learn and ability to adapt to changes quickly, while consistently meeting or exceeding expectations
  • Maintaining confidentiality to sensitive client information
  • Desire to make a positive difference in the lives of animals and their owners

Licensed & Licensed Eligible Veterinary Technicians

North Shore Animal League America is currently seeking Licensed & Licensed Eligible Veterinary Technicians to join the  talented, supportive, and passionate team at our Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center and LaRocca Wellness Center. We are an AAHA accredited practice. As a forward thinking facility, we keep up with the newest technology to meet the ever changing needs of our clients.

Ideal candidates must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment, work well with staff members, be detail oriented and have excellent communication skills. Our full-time LVT’s enjoy a 10 hour/4 day or 8 hour/5 day work week. Must be flexible to work additional hours when workload requires.

Experience a plus, but will train new graduates!

Requirements:

  • NYS Veterinary Technician license, limited permit or currently enrolled in an AVMA school program.
  • Must be proficient in all technical skills.
  • Must be mature, responsible, energetic, and able to work well in a team atmosphere.

Staff Veterinarian, full-time

North Shore Animal League America is currently seeking a full-time Staff Veterinarian to join our 16 doctor, AAHA accredited medical center.

We provide high quality, affordable veterinary care to our shelter residents as well as both adopted and community pets.

Fully equipped, state of the art facilities. In house capabilities include wellness center with rehabilitation suite (including underwater treadmill), dental suite, digital full body and dental radiology ( supported with cutting-edge artificial intelligence by SignalPet), endoscopy, class IV therapy laser, 3 GE Versa Active ultrasound machines, fully equipped surgical suite performing both soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery, and isolation facility. We see over 30,000 cases annually, providing an exciting and challenging work environment. The variety and volume of our caseload offers applicants the opportunity to work in a medically progressive practice.

We foster a collaborative environment with a shared doctor’s office to discuss challenging cases.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • DVMs will rotate through all departments which include clinics (sick and wellness visits) soft tissue +/- orthopedic surgery (based on desire and skillset), management of hospitalized cases and shelter animal exams.

Veterinary Assistants

North Shore Animal League America is currently seeking full time 40 hours/5 days a week including a weekend shift Veterinary Assistants with hands on animal experience to support Veterinarians and Licensed Veterinary Technicians in their daily tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with medical examinations. Restrain and handle patients as needed.
  • Greet clients, review charts before placing clients and patients into exam rooms.
  • Take complete patient history before Veterinarian comes in room.
  • Administer oral topical, eye and ear medications bandage changes.
  • Know vaccine and testing protocols. Prepare outside lab tests.
  • Fecal and urine sample collection and run/read fecal tests.
  • Prepare surgical packs using autoclave.
  • Identify animals in need of medical attention.
  • Document treatments in treatment record.
  • Educate and provide information to the clients concerning prescriptions, preventatives, nutrition and special diets and our services.
  • Clean and maintain holding areas, exam rooms and equipment, clean cages, water bowls, litter pans and do laundry.
  • Feed, exercise groom and weigh patients. Perform special diet feeding.
  • Collar, process and transport animals to other areas of facility when necessary.
  • Stock medical and non-medical supplies.
  • Monitor animals in oxygen cages.

Requirements:

  • Qualified candidates must possess 1+ years’ experience or applicable education experience.
  • Hands on animal experience is required and the Ability to handle and control animals.

Veterinary Student Shelter/Medical Center Externship Program

North Shore Animal League America is pleased to offer an externship opportunity for students currently enrolled in their third and fourth year at a veterinary college. NSALA, the world’s largest no-kill animal adoption and rescue organization, offers students a diverse experience in animal sheltering as well as medical and surgical management of disease.

The Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center was first established in 1992 and is dedicated to the treatment of all dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens that come to our Rescue & Adoption Center each year. We strive to provide the highest quality medicine to both our shelter population and owned pets from our community.

Each week, over 150 animals are hospitalized and over 200 outpatients receive examinations and treatment. Our veterinarians see, on average, over 20,000 pets each year. Our medical staff provides our shelter pets with a full range of medical services including: routine vaccinations, management of complex medical cases, pediatric and neonatal medicine, isolation and management of infectious disease, spay/neuter procedures, soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery. We have a state of the art medical facility with digital full-body and dental radiography, ultrasound, a dental suite, rigid and flexible endoscopy.

We have a two or four week externship program that focuses on sheltering rescued pets as well as treatment and surgical procedure. Students have a variety of opportunities within our facility; working in our shelter, making rounds in our medical wards, seeing patients in our Out-Patients Clinic, and the chance to both observe and participate in surgical procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Externs are expected to work 40-hour weeks, which includes ONE weekend shift.
  • Participate in medical examinations and treatments of our visiting and hospitalized pets.
  • The student will be paired with one of our staff veterinarians while they attend to hospitalized patients.

Petring Grant Veterinarian Internship - 1 position available

North Shore Animal League America, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption center, seeks a recent graduate of an accredited veterinary college with a passion for shelter medicine, to join the Anita and Catherine Petring Program.

This program provides DVM graduates with a one year hands-on learning experience at AAHA accredited Alex and Elizabeth Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center. We provide high quality, affordable veterinary care to our shelter residents as well as both adopted and community pets in our fully equipped, state of the art facilities. In house capabilities include wellness center with rehabilitation suite (including underwater treadmill), dental suite, digital full body and dental radiology ( supported with cutting-edge artificial intelligence by SignalPet), endoscopy, class IV therapy laser, 3 GE Versa Active ultrasound machines, fully equipped surgical suite performing both soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery, and isolation facility.

The Petring Grant Veterinarian Internship is a 1 year, intensive and immersive position for new veterinary graduates looking for a highly mentored position to develop clinical confidence and decision making skills. It is a rotational internship through the following functional areas:

  • Shelter Medical
  • Isolation/Quarantine
  • Hospital wards
  • Clinic Services
  • Surgery

A special research project may also be part of the program. The perfect candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • A New York State DVM license required
  • Candidates must be a recent Veterinary Medicine graduate (within one year of graduation)
  • Must be able to commit to a full-time 40 hour work week, which includes 1 weekend shift per weekend for one year

The position pays a stipend of $85,000 annually, before taxes.  This is considered a contract position and as such, employee benefits are not provided. Two weeks (80 hours) of scheduled vacation and limited sick time are permitted.

While there is no guarantee of employment at the end of the program, successful candidates would be given priority for open positions.
